Is it going to happen this year or will it be another "unofficial" non-event like last year? :lurker

So...knowing how my Jeep is, am I going to get hassled if I come? What about Kevin?

Also, is there camping up near the rocks so I don't have to drive 10 miles on dirt roads?

You guys have license plates, you'd be fine. Yes there's camping closer.

Yeah, the really bad year they were stopping for flaps/flares, then looking closer. IIRC Paul you're sans flares, so either tuck into a group and cross yer fingers, or maybe trailer to the trailhead..? There are definitely camping options towards the rocks, but you'll miss all the shenanigans...

So the dates for the "unofficial non-event" are Sept 9-11? :brows:

Camping sounds fun, I haven't had a chance to do that in a while.

Crazy, I've never seen law enforcement up there checking rigs. There were some forest ranger peeps up there last weekend, but they appeared to be there just to make sure nobody was getting out of hand. Saw two different pairs and they just waived both times. You'd think if anyone was going to get fined it would have been someone from last weekend. There were some real gems up there.

Was this up on the actual trails though? The rigs I saw getting pulled over were on the public road b/w our regular camp area and HWY 410...

Yes. One pair was at the base of moon rocks and the other pair was near the area off FS1701 where a lot of people camp (at the start of the summit trail I think).

FS or police said they were going to have unmarked vehicles/people up at the rocks for July 4th weekend to make sure people were behaving. They had made an official statement and I can't remember where I saw it. I had the impression it was partly to do with that DUI guy that killed himself with his grand cherokee a few weeks ago.

Yeah I knew that, ironically, Boosted, the guy that started this thread, is who shared that info on Facebook. My comment was more in regards to rigs being checked. Either way, I've managed to derail this thread enough. :drnk:

Back on subject, I need to buy a new tent.
