Tactical Recovery Equipment

It's an all aluminum snatch block. Weighs less than 2 lbs. I'm doing some testing, but it should be available shortly. Also note the new soft shackles. Also available soon.

Note here that I did not need the metal shackle. The soft shackle will pass straight through the Safety Thimble. I'm not sure if it will without damage to the shackle when using the other copies on the market, however.

My favorite is the fairlead that holds the Thimble out of the way. It will help when I'm punting John M to go faster. :)

So far this thing has been rock solid, except for one issue. Well, two. The major one is no where near enough motor. :help: I think the plan is to switch over to a GM drivetrain. LS3 and TH400, since I don't need OD anymore. Either that or heads/cam/tuner for this one, will be 400 hp versus 450 of the LS3.

But the current issue is I'm having trans overheat issues on the trail, and on the dunes. It was real bad when it was 100 degrees at Hoodoo. I have the same old small trans cooler on the front of the CBR radiator, but it's spaced away a 1/2 inch, and it is only in front of one fan. Before it was in front of the mechanical engine fan. Currently stock 98 Dodge 360 and 46RE trans.

I'm considering trying a larger fin and plate cooler in front of the radiator, hugging up close to it.

The other option is to spend the cash on in a dedicated cooler with fan and move it to the back of the Jeep. Not excited about the noise, but it's cheaper than buying a new trans.

Thoughts?

Does your radiator have the AT tank built in? New, larger cooler up front with dedicated fan seems better. Could also be your torque converter stall?

No, I didn't want it in the radiator. I don;t have room up front, it would have to go in the back by the fuel cell. Maybe flat with a little air scoop.

The torque converter is stock with a low stall (maybe 1700?). It's possible a nicer TC with a firmer lockup and a shift kit would help...

What I really want is a water to oil heat exchanger, but I'm not sure the radiator I specced out is large enbough for that. I'd have to rebuild the front end (with your steer box mount) and order a new radiator. Want to buy my 31x16? :roflmao:

You're making my build easy with all these barely used parts coming off yours

It sounds like your trans is having to work too hard. This would also explain why you want more power, it's not getting to the ground as efficiently as it would with a better trans. Are you sure it's not slipping? I know you've changed the filters and fluid regularly.

Give me a good package deal on the 360/auto and radiator when you're ready to go to LS :roflmao:

Wow, been a while. Sold the Magnum drivetrain to Ryan, hope that thing is running soon!

In the middle of dropping in a 2003 LQ4 and TH400 into mine, we had to prep the 4800 car for KOH. Now that KOH is over, and have a break before the next race, time to get the swap done.

Setting placement.

All done. Time to wire and build the trans.

BTW, the Currie/Barnett covers are NOT up to the task of driving hard.
