To follow up, getting a crash course on wrapping vehicles in the middle of the night was fun. Can't wait to do my own.

Did anyone that went down there here about this new trail?

Quote:
Also ran most of Hwy 55 (new trail Mark Underwood just cut over Thanksgiving).

Mark and I also hiked a new trail he has been eye-balling. Technically, its three trails as it has two canyon off-shoots. That being said, its 3mi+ long. Its wide like Wrecking Ball, and the trail is going to be epic when its done. IMO, having seen Black Flag and personally run Captain Crunch in South Dakota, this new trail is going to be harder than both of them. Huge 20ft waterfall climbs(6-7 of them) and massive boulders all throughout the trail. I would say right now that only 1/3 of the trail is passable. But, with some rocks moved into the right spots, it would be doable with a week or two of work. It will still require winching in at least three places. I will say that its harder than anything I have seen at the Hammers by far.

Because Race car. Once I get my poop in a group and take care of chores, I will post a writeup. No photos this year as I was busy.

8:45 the stupid starts.

Start of the race. Around 4:50 we hit flat lakebed and you can hear that motor sing.

Footage from the drag race at 3:48 4 normal trail wheelers with a head start vs a race car.

I'm sure an obvious question to those who know racing, but why do race vehicles have hoses going to the driver and passenger? Do they breathe higher oxygen content than the atmosphere to improve reflexes or something?

It's a fresh air pump system. Keeps filtered air pushing into the helmet to keep the dust out. The big name is the industry is Parker Pumpers, so they're generally just referred to as "pumpers".

Parker Pumper is the most common brand, but there are others. It's filtered air primarily, the dusty racing environments, exhaust, whatever are nasty to breathe. Having cool fresh air pushed into your helmet is awesome.

edit: What Myke said.

Although I like the "higher oxygen content" idea. We should make sure Larry does that if he plans to race again. Supplemental oxygen might not be a bad idea for him as long as he's not smoking cigars on course.

Along with filtered air, it also slightly pressurizes the helmets so it keeps the dust out of yours eyes.

I briefly thought of ways to incorporate a "cigar hole" but realized his helmet would fill with smoke and we'd be even worse off. It was easier to listen to him yell obscenities at the other competitors.

I used helmet blowers in my road race cars. Helps cool the driver a lot, and keeps visors and glasses from fogging.

C'mon H, you're a better problem solver than that. I expect an integrated Hooka/SCBA in his next helmet... :smt033
