We had an awesome time this weekend...

Image

The majority of the group started from the Greenwater side on SAT morning...I'm not-so-street legal, so I led a smaller group that started the run on the East side at the bottom of Kaner. Mark, Brandy, Myloe, Danielle & I headed out FRI morning...fuel at Safeway in Enumclaw, breakfast at Charlies Diner, over Chinook Pass & set up camp at Longmire Meadow. We spent the afternoon lounging by the river in the hot sun

Image

Lots of folks heading out with loads of cut firewood & hunters everywhere...even saw some Elk trying to bed down just outside of camp. Mark said he could smell them...I didn't believe him, so I grabbed the spotlight & there they were. Crazy. The rest of the crew...Roger, Lavonna, Mike & some late arriving KrazyK5 friends...showed up later that night to a warm fire.

On SAT morning we headed up FS1903 with the tow rigs, ran into Merrick (Murk), watched him educate an ATV rider on the road without a helmet & proceeded to unload the rigs across from the Kaner entrance just above Ponderosa Campground. Several more rigs showed up to round out the group...Shane, Kristina, Fred, Don, Kate, Dustin, Corrine & crew.

We made good time heading up Kaner...

Image

On upper Kaner, we took the left side towards Quartz Mtn & then a quick right on the ridge trail...found some sweet rocks that ate a dana 35 shaft on Fred's YJ.

Image

He didn't have a spare, so we removed the tire, shoved a log under the axle, hooked him up to Shane's K5 & started dragging him down the trail.

Image

Image

I took the 3 toyotas in my group, headed to Tripod Flats & sourced a spare shaft from a guy that was part of the crew that started on the Greenwater side. The other half of the crew made it as far as Region 4 Meadows and set up camp...they sent a runner up to exchange :spend for the shaft and got to work fixing the rig. They stayed at the Region 4 Meadows shelter.

The rest of us set up camp at Tripod Flats, ate dinner & drank beer around the fire with a great group of folks. Rigs were showing up all night long with the last group getting in around midnight.

Some random pics from FRI/SAT...

Mike lost his propane tank on a hill, so we stopped to engineer a better strap setup...

Mark showing off his new burrito cooker...

My brother's rig is on the left, Mike's toy, my rig & then Mark's new runner. All three toyotas were recently built...in fact, this was the first time I have wheeled with my bro in about 5 years. Roger & Mark still need to get their rigs painted, but are mechanically done.

Here is Don navigating the party wagon up the rocks on the ridge trail...

I love this section of the trail...

I took over driving duties & showed Lavonna a few more lines :smt077:

This was her first time on the rocks, but she handled it like a pro...only screamed a little bit

We ended the day over at Funny Rocks...

Thanks to Brandy, Kristina & Roger for the pictures!

I think I know who you are talking about....I didn't know that was him :dunno:

Sad we never found your group on Sunday; it was cold and windy. We hung out at Funny Rocks for awhile though.

It was chilly & starting to sprinkle when we started down Milk Creek Road...which helped knock the dust down

You must have just missed us...we started at Moon Rocks & then moved over to Funny Rocks to get some cell reception. I saw a few jeeps pull into Moon Rocks shortly after we got there (white TJ & a black 4Runner with green exo), but didn't see them come down to the backside of Moon Rocks.

:dunno:

Had a blast, so much fun. Five of us raced up Five Finger Hill. We made so much dust that you couldn't see 3 feet in front of you . It was awesome. Good meeting you all. Can't wait till next time.

Awesome!

Where is that "little section of trail" you love? I love it too but have no Idea how to find it.

After Lily Pond on upper Kaner (676) the trail splits into a Y just before the top of the ridge...as seen HERE...take the LEFT side & then turn RIGHT when you intersect Manastash Ridge (4W306). The rocky section is on 4W306 between where the Y's from 676 connect.

Look at page 12 on the Cle Elum ORV MAP...just left of the words Manastash Management Area.

If you cant find it with his directions, let me know I think I have an idea on where it is. Basically when you get to lilly pond, go up hill. Then a right at when you get to the top of the ridge towards the shoe string trail. I think that is where it is.

The Kaner Trail splits just before the ridge...if you stay right & head to Shoestring, then you will miss the rock section. At the Y there is a small fire pit & rock field...take the left path (like you are heading to Quartz Mtn) & then take a right on Manastash Ridge Trail. There are 2 rocky paths to choose from...fun, but nothing too crazy
