After hooking up with a couple of buddies from my Jeep club, we headed up to Evans Creek for a day (I thought) of wheeling. Unfortunately, I had the shortest wheeling day ever.

We started up the lower 311. One of the guys was struggling with the gatekeeper at the very beginning of the trail. He gave it a couple of shots then backed up to let another guy give it a try. After about 4 attempts he made it up. Now it's my turn. I go up to the obstacle and just kind of roll through it. I kept the momentum up and made it up without any drama. Smooth, no bounce, no problem. At least that's what I thought. The Jeep however, was not happy. Immediately I heard a loud clicking. I thought it might be a front hub since I just changed them. Nope...it's underneath in the T-case. The T-case shifts but the front won't completely disengage. I can feel the click in the shifter. I unlock the hubs and head out. It can do about 30mph before it sounds too scary to go faster (even in hi 2wd).

Since I drove the Jeep out there I nursed it down the hill and called a buddy to pick me up. I washed it on the way home and the T-case comes out tomorrow.

I wasn't on the trail 200 ft. That's got to be a record. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Don't you have a 2 speed atlas in the YJ?

Its a D300, 32 Spline Output...Twin Sticks.

This sucks Scott, But you gotta admit....this T-case has seen its share of Trails. Keep us posted on the outcome, be interesting to hear what it is....Bent Shifter Assembly, maybe not letting it come all the way out of gear...?

I saw you heading down while we were coming up. I wondered what you were doing. Dana 300s are notorious for popping out of gear but yours wont come out of gear, go figure. :dunno: Shifter rails in the case would be my guess.

That does suck. I know how it feels to be jacked up for a run and then have it end all to early. Hope the damage isn't too bad.

You don't carry a spare t-case? :nono: :f2:

I ran Evans yesterday and I was also hit by the broken parts bug. On the way home I stopped at the Burnett gas station and notice that my jeep had a gangsta lean going on. The right side was sitting a lot lower than the left. Checked out my rear springs to see what the deal was, back springs were all intacted and still straight. Drove home and it drove normal except I could tell it was ass high on the drivers side. When I woke up this morning I went in the garage to check it out. Turns out I pulled the stock shackle mount off the frame (common yj problem) the shackle was sandwiched between the frame and the spring. Scary thing is I drove it all day Evans and dont know when it happened, then drove 45 mins home on the freeway. Ill get some pics and post them.

I've removed the t-case and found the problem...the intermediate gear is missing 2 teeth. Now to try and find one. :bang: The way I've used the Jeep I've probably wounded it a few times. I'm not at all pissed about the damage (short of the inconvenience) because I've used the Jeep hard with very, very few issues. Stuff happens when you wheel. If I had lesser equipment I would have had MUCH more to fix over the years.

I did the same thing a few years back and did a field weld job to repair it. I was shocked at how little weld was holding it all together. Mountain Off Road sells a great replacement that is much stronger.

I snapped a few on my phone. Sam's buddy was shooting video and taking photos so, we'll see. I ran about every combination of lines I could think of on Brakeline Hill. Actually hurt my passenger door significantly going around the tree.
