Ordered my gas springs for the lid from www.liftsupportdepot.com tonight.
28 inches extended with 150 pounds of thrust. I ordered two, one for each side.
My lid is extremely heavy, I think I over built it and then some.
I am hoping the gas springs not only assist in lifting it open but keep it open until I pull it closed.
We shall see...

Made a little headway today.
I bolted up the axle and wheels, then I set the body on top. Body isn't bolted down yet.
I still need to:
- Weld on shock mounts.
- Make base platforms that I can build a telescoping rack for the roof top tent.
- Fab up some tube fenders.
Then take it all down and paint the body to match the jeep, Rhino line the inside and flat top portion of lid (to set kayaks on), take the frame to the powder coater.
After all that I can put it back together, hook up brake lights, hook up electric brakes, exterior lighting, interior lighting, install parking brake, tongue box with 2 deep cycle batteries, solar panels and buy my roof top tent and batwing awning, load levelers, and a few other nick nacks...
Hoping to still be done before December 1st for snow camping... :)

So the aluminum hubcentric spacer won't fit all the way onto the hub because the hub has a slight taper that I did not catch when I measured and ordered them.
Does anyone know a place in the South Seattle to Tacoma area that can make the inside circle a little bigger??

Gas Springs made it in today.
I should have time to mount these to the Lid this weekend.
I was able to get them switched from 150 pounds to 200 pounds.
Hopefully thats enough to open the lid easily.

I'll see how it goes and maybe down grade to 150 pound springs in the future. I also started on making the rear supports for the rack. Once finished, these will be welded to the rear cross member to support the foundation for the telescoping rack.

A few more baby steps today.
Cut and welded up the expanded metal to set the tongue box and propane tank(s) on.
Also made a small platform/base to weld the vertical 2in tube for the collapsable rack.
Hope to make some more headway this weekend.

After trying to save and improve the original frame I finally gave up.
Time for a do-over.
Starting off with 2x3 3/16 wall tube.
Ditching the Pintle Hitch setup up and going with the Max Coupler.
Played with my dimple-die set on the gussets, worked out okay.
Had some time this week to make a little headway..

Installed the Spring Hanger Brackets...
The rear shackles were set at 23 degrees which equates to 1 inch offset from the bottom to the top hole of the shackle.
Some more welding and grinding/cleanup left to do..

Modified the U-bolt Plates to a accept the polyurethane bump stops.
Also finished up welding and cleaning up the frame.
Left to do on the frame is:
- Weld frame portion of shock mounts.
- Weld expanded metal to deck.
After that I think it will be good to go the the powder coater.

There are places all over that can do this for you, just google it...

For the brake press many shops have those too, google fabricator and the city you live in and I am sure quite a few will come up.
Also most ductwork/ac shops have them. Locally for me I'd hit up John at Auburn Car Repair (not sure if he has one but he can tell you who does) or XO-Fab in Enumclaw

Set up the manual trailer brake handle today, now to figure out where I want to run the cable... Done for this weekend...
