I hadn't seen it mentioned yet, so I'd like to remind everyone that Evans Creek is in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and a Northwest Forest Pass is required. A day pass is $5 per day, and an annual pass is $30.

They are available online here: http://www.naturenw.org/store-passes.htm

Or they can be purchased at a number of retailers like REI or the Chevron in Wilkeson on the way to Evans. Find a vendor here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/vendors.php

More info here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/

Do you need one for your tow rig and jeep?

Only one pass is required. If you drive your Jeep, keep it there... If you tow your Jeep up and park your tow rig within the park limits, leave the pass in tow rig.

Yes. It's basically a day-use pass. The explanation I've heard from the FS guys is that if you STOP, you are parked, and therefore the pass is required. :roflmao:

It's a USE pass, not a parking pass. If you are using the trails, road in, parking area or campground for any length of time (i.e. not turning around) you need a pass. Often times there are Rangers at the exit making sure everybody has their pass on the way out...and they will write tickets. Beyond that, the money we spend on the passes allows the USFS to maintain and improve the trail system...spend the $5, or better yet $30 and come back a few more times over the next year. ;)

I was planning on using it more this last year, but between 2 M&Gs (4 x $5) and day hikes in the Cascades (3 x $5), I will have managed to make my annual pass pay for itself (barely).

Looks like you're good to go.

Honored nationwide at all Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and US Fish & Wildlife Service sites charging entrance or standard amenity fees.
